Why AI isn’t going to solve Facebook’s fake news problem

Moderation will always be a problem on a platform this huge. Facebook has a lot of problems right now, but one that’s definitely not going away any time soon is fake news. As the company’s user base has grown to include more than a quarter of the world’s population, it has (understandably) struggled to control what they all post and share. Dozen black holes found at galactic centre

A dozen black holes may lie at the centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way, researchers have said. A new analysis provides support for a decades-old prediction that “supermassive” black holes at the centres of galaxies are surrounded by many smaller ones. However, previous searches of the Milky Way’s centre, where the nearest supermassive black hole is located, have found little evidence for this. Details appear in the journal Nature. Charles Hailey from Columbia University in New York and colleagues used archival data from Nasa’s Chandra X-ray telescope to come to their conclusions. They report the discovery of a...

Move aims to allay media plurality fears over 21st Century Fox’s takeover of British broadcaster. Murdoch’s bid is being scrutinised by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) amid concerns that buying the 61% of Sky his company 21st Century Fox does not already own will give him too much media influence. The Murdoch family also controls News UK, the owner of the Times and the Sun, and the...
